Baseball > Play At Second Base

The 16 foot bronze version of this sculpture was the fourth of the Veteran’s Stadium sculptures. It was installed in October 1976.

This sculpture is a base-stealing situation involving a shortstop and a man sliding into second base. The throe from the catcher was a little high and to the right of the bag, but the shortstop has caught it and is on the way to the tag. The slider hasn’t reached the bag so again there is room for disagreement as to whether he will be “safe” or “out”.
